The BEST Time of Day for Your Kansas City Fall Family Outdoor Session

You know me — I will photograph in all types of light. There’s no ONE perfect time to have a session, because we can make photo magic in multiple conditions.

However, there ARE better times based on your family needs. When we work together, this is something I chat through with each family. Here are some tips for you to consider.

Good Morning, Sunshine!

Some families (and kids!) are bright-and-early risers. Maybe this is when you all feel your best, when the toddler’s in the greatest spirits, and being outside in morning just makes you feel ALIVE. It might come as a little surprise that I offer select sunrise sessions. Golden hour starts with dawn first, and the soft light you’ll get at this time of day is every bit as beautiful as the classic eveningtime, with its own unique look and color. If making photos first with the rest of the day to chill (or spill! Or play in dirt! Or be able to use your photo-ready self for events!) sounds like a beautiful opportunity, this session time is for you.

We Love a Good Midi

Ok, yes. The Midi Dress might be worth considering for your photo look — but so is Mid Morning or Mid Afternoon. Kids are fresh after naps and before lunch or dinner, OR you have lunch or evening plans and getting ready + sneaking in a peaceful photoshoot (yes, when done right, it can be relaxing!) sounds like the efficient gal you are. One look, two birds — so to speak. I know all the little places to make you shine during these times of day in your photos. You truly don’t have to wait longer to achieve lovely lighting. You just have to work with someone who knows how.

Wait for it…

The classic evening golden hour is iconic for a reason. The warmest hues of the day, soft golden hour lighting is usually associated with the two hours directly before sunset. After school and work (or getting off a tad early in the Fall because of earlier sunset times!) can be the most convenient for your family. You can relax into an evening session after a full day, one of the best ways to soak up some family time and finally pause to enjoy the Fall air. Breathtaking sunset hues, or the soft light preceding it, are a stunning backdrop to your family connections. If evening is the ticket for you and yours, let’s plan on it.

Each time of day holds its charms and beauty. There’s no wrong answer. Let’s chat about which one works for YOUR family outdoor Fall session. Inquire below and we can begin the process.
