Fall Coffee Drinks to Try in Kansas City

This isn’t an exhaustive list of all the fall coffee drinks you could think of in the area, because I’m hoping in KC you can step around the corner and find a cozy sip of goodness just about anywhere. Here are a few of OUR recommendations if you’re out and about, from around the city. Enjoy Fall! And stay cozy doing it.

Hi Hat Coffee — Westwood Hills

Hi Hat is a tiny Kansas City coffee shop that exudes extra charm when fall rolls around. The little shop sits right on State Line with plenty of outdoor seating under the trees (no room inside this one!), and they bring out a fun seasonal menu each year alongside their regular espresso drinks and bakery case. Pumpkin spice is back for fall, so this is an easy stop when you want something cozy to sip outside on a crisp morning, or sit in the dappled light of the trees in the afternoon. (Yes, I talk like that. Don’t give AI all the credit!) They are also so friendly here!

Pilgrim Coffee Company — Overland Park

Pilgrim always does seasonal drinks well, and their fall menu has a nice mix of familiar and different. You can stick with their house-made Pumpkin Spice Latte, or try the Maple Leaf Latte with maple, brown sugar and sea salt, Cardamom Cream Cold Brew, Cookie Butter Matcha, or their Belgian Chai, which adds maple to chai for a little Belgian-waffle-in-the-fall kind of feel.

Grand Coffee — Downtown Kansas City

Grand Coffee has a smaller fall menu, but there are some really good choices on it. Their Pumpkin Pie Latte covers the classic fall craving, while the Salted Maple Chai mixes chai, maple and pink salt. They also have a Ginger Gold Latte with turmeric, honey and ginger, plus a Caramel Apple Cold Brew topped with cold foam and caramel drizzle. That last one feels especially perfect for those September days when it technically feels like fall but KC is still warm outside.

Rochester Brewing & Roasting Co. — Crossroads + Parkville

Rochester has leaned all the way into cozy comfort-food flavors this fall. Their Pumpkin Pancake Latte combines brown butter pumpkin sauce, espresso and maple cinnamon whipped cream, and their French Toast Latte has cinnamon and French toast syrup with oat milk. There’s also a Banana Bread Chai with banana and hazelnut that you can make dirty with espresso. If coffee isn’t your thing, they even have a sparkling blackberry sage shrub on the fall menu.

Café Corazón — Westport, Brookside + Crossroads

Café Corazón’s fall menu is exactly what you’d hope for from them: familiar fall flavors, but with their own Latin American twist. Their Pumpkin Spice Horchata combines espresso, pumpkin, spices and rice milk, while the Dulce Manzanita mixes dulce de leche, cold brew and apple. You can also try the Mate Otoñal Latte with yerba mate, chai and maple, or the Platano Spice Matcha Latte, which brings together banana, matcha and banana bread spices. Definitely not your everyday pumpkin latte menu.

The Bean Coffee & Cafe — Spring Hill

If you want LOTS of choices, The Bean may win this list. They have the traditional Pumpkin Spice Latte, but also a Cinnamon Bun Latte, Caramel Apple Latte, S’mores Latte, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, S’mores Cold Brew, chai with pumpkin cold foam and even a Caramel Apple Butter Shaken Espresso. One of the more unusual choices is their ‘Umpkin Latte, which pairs pumpkin with ube cold foam. This is probably the spot to take a group when everyone has a different definition of the perfect fall drink.

Sway Coffee Roasters — Kansas City, Kansas

Sway’s fall menu is worth a stop if you like seasonal flavors that aren’t overly predictable. One of the drinks getting attention this year is their Brown Sugar Rosemary Latte, which sounds like such a good mix of sweet and earthy. They’re also doing a Chaider, combining chai with local Louisburg apple cider. I especially like this one for fall because it feels very Kansas City without trying too hard.

Café Equinox — Shawnee, Overland Park + Liberty

Café Equinox might win for the setting alone. It’s a GEM location that’s perfect for a work session or break. The coffee shop is tucked right inside Family Tree Nursery, so you can grab a coffee and wander through the greenhouse while you drink it. They serve Thou Mayest coffee and are known for rotating seasonal drinks. We tried the Harvest Moon and the Golden Hour (a tumeric based latte that lived up to the hype. Plenty of flavor, it did not fall flat!) The whole coffee-among-the-plants experience feels made for a crisp fall morning, so get out there.

McLain’s Bakery + Market — Multiple KC Locations

McLain’s has been around Kansas City forever, and their fall coffee menu feels appropriately cozy. This year they’re serving a Pumpkin Butternut Spice Latte, made with pumpkin butternut spice syrup, along with Sugar, Spice, Everything Nice, a drink inspired by pumpkin pie and whipped cream. You can also grab their Salted Market Cold Foam Cold Brew, and if you’re bringing the kids along, they have a Caramel Apple Cider too. Pair one with something from the pastry case and you’ve basically covered all the fall bases.

Heirloom Bakery & Hearth — Brookside

Heirloom is one of those places where the pastry case may distract you from the coffee entirely, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Enjoy a Maple Cardamom Latte, Honey Rosemary Latte, or creamy London Fog, then pair it with something like an apple pop tart or one of their other seasonal baked goods. Everything feels very neighborhood bakery, sit-down-with-a-latte-and-stay-awhile, which makes it an easy fall morning stop.
